The Federal Government has warned that heavy rainfall and possible flooding may hit Abuja and parts of Niger, Nasarawa, and Kaduna states between July 31 and August 4, 2025.
Dockaysworld reports that a flood alert issued by the Ministry of Environment through its National Flood Early Warning Systems (FEWS), 11 communities in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) are expected to be affected.
These include Asokoro, Gwarinpa, Wuse 1 & 2, Garki 1 & 2, Nyanya, Kubwa, Guzape, Bwari, Gwagwalada, Damagaza, and the Central Business District.
Reacting to the alert, the Acting Director General of the FCT Emergency Management Department (FEMD), Engr. Abdulrahman Mohammed, said rescue teams are on standby. He also urged residents to stay safe and avoid flooded roads.
“Please do not drive or walk through floodwaters. Use alternative routes and clear your drains to allow water to flow freely,” he advised.
The alert also includes several flood-prone areas in nearby states. In Niger State: Suleja, Mashegu, Sarkin Pawa, and Rijau may be affected. In Nasarawa: Mararaba, Gidan Rogo, Wamba, Agima, Rukubi, and Odogbo are at risk. For Kaduna State, the areas listed include Zaria, Jaji, Kauru, Kachia, and Buruku.
Residents in all affected areas have been advised to prepare and take necessary safety precautions.
The latest alert comes just days after severe flooding in Yola, Adamawa State, where five people died and over 55 were injured following heavy rainfall.
