The Federal Government has scrapped the minimum age requirement of 18 for students entering tertiary institutions across Nigeria.
Dr. Tunji Alausa, the newly appointed Minister of Education, introduced this policy as part of a broader initiative to reshape the nation’s education system and make it more accessible.
In addition to the age policy change, Alausa addressed the Ministry’s commitment to cracking down on unaccredited universities operating abroad.
Recently, the Ministry nullified over 22,700 certificates earned by Nigerians from non-recognized institutions in Togo and Benin Republic.
Tunji said the Education Ministry remains resolute in upholding this decision to maintain educational standards across the country.
“There will be no reversal on the decision regarding the 22,700 certificates.
“We are committed to safeguarding the integrity of our education system”, Alausa said.
Recall that the Federal Government in September announced plans to create guidelines to address the 18-year age limit for university admissions.
The government also said that the 18-year age limit is not for students participating in WAEC, NECO, NABTEB, or any ordinary-level examinations.
