Former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad, has reportedly passed away, leaving the Nigerian legal community in deep mourning.
Sources said he died while receiving medical treatment in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday morning.
Justice Muhammad served in the Nigerian judiciary for several decades, eventually rising to the country’s highest judicial office.
He stepped down as Chief Justice in June 2022 due to health issues.
The Nigerian Association of Muslim Law Students (NAMLAS) described his death as a heavy loss to the judiciary, the legal profession, the Muslim community, and the nation.
They remembered him for his dedication, fairness, and strong commitment to the rule of law.
Throughout his career, Justice Muhammad was a mentor to many young lawyers and Muslim law students, offering guidance and encouragement that impacted the legal profession deeply.
