The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has announced the resumption of enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit policy, citing growing security concerns nationwide.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Monday by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin.
The police said enforcement will resume on January 2, 2026, pending the final determination of a related matter currently before the court.
The NPF clarified that no court order ever restrained it from enforcing the law on the use of tinted glass on vehicles.
It explained that enforcement was earlier suspended to allow motorists adequate time to regularise their documents without pressure.
According to the police, recent security assessments show a rise in crimes carried out using vehicles with unauthorised tinted glass.
Such vehicles are allegedly used by criminals to conceal their identities while committing offences including armed robbery and kidnapping.
The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, assured the public that enforcement will be carried out professionally and in line with existing laws.
He said the Force remains committed to protecting citizens’ rights while ensuring public safety and security.
Motorists who require tinted glass permits were advised to apply through approved channels and ensure their vehicles comply with legal requirements.
