Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha has added a statue of President Buhari, to growing number of statutes of African Presidents, ahead of his scheduled visit to the state after his trip to Saudi Arabia for lesser Hajj.

Okorocha unveiled the new statue of Buhari, just two weeks to his handover ceremony to the incoming government which will be headed by Emeka Ihedioha.

This is coming after it was reported that President Buhari on Tuesday, postponed his one-day official visit to Imo State.

This was disclosed in a statement, signed by the Chief Press Secretary to Imo State Governor, Sam Onwuemeodo. Buhari was expected in Imo State to commission, among other projects, the statue of himself, constructed by the Governor Rochas Okorocha government.

The statement read:

“We humbly wish to inform the general public and Imo people in particular that His Excellency, the president and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari GCFR, has not returned from Saudi Arabia where he is at the moment with other Muslims from all parts of the world on pilgrimage.

“Against the backdrop of this development, the scheduled visit of the president to Imo State for the commissioning of some key projects of Governor Rochas Okorocha on Tuesday May 21, 2019 (today) has been postponed.”

Recall, Okorocha also had a statue made for South Africa president Jacob Zuma in 2018, which caused the ire of Nigerians who felt it was unnecessary.

He had also gone ahead to build statues for former Liberian President Ellen Sirleaf, the Ghanaian President and even a statue of himself. The Governor has now finally added the statue of Nigeria’s President.
