Why I left Labour Party for PDP – Edo Deputy Governor

The newly sworn-in Deputy Governor of Edo State, Omobayo Godwin, has revealed why he dumped the Labour Party (LP) for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)

Godwins who assumed office after the impeachment of Philip Shaibu, said the PDP promises a brighter political future for him.

He made this declaration during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme.

His decision to switch parties was fueled by his support for the gubernatorial aspiration of PDP flag bearer, Asue Ighodalo, for the upcoming Edo Governorship election scheduled for September 21.

Godwins emphasized that his elevation to the deputy governorship role, just months before the end of Governor Godwin Obaseki’s eight-year tenure, is strategically aligned with efforts to bolster Ighodalo’s chances of victory over his rivals from other parties.

Reflecting on his departure from the Labour Party, Godwins noted significant changes within the party since the 2023 polls, where he previously contested for the Federal House of Representatives seat.

He cited internal conflicts and irreconcilable differences among party members as contributing factors to his decision to switch allegiance.
