A High Court in Ibadan has reportedly given the latest update on Ibadan stampede case that led to the death of 30 minors.
It dismissed the case against Queen Naomi, Oriyomi Hamzat, and school principal Abdulahi Fasasi, who were initially charged over a tragic stampede that claimed the lives of over 30 children at a Christmas funfair in 2024.
Justice Ladiran Akintola, who presided over the case, ruled that the charges be dropped after the Oyo State Attorney General, Abiodun Aikomo, announced that affected families had shown empathy toward the defendants and requested the case’s withdrawal.
He also confirmed that some families had received compensation and that confiscated documents had been returned.
The stampede occurred at the funfair venue in Basorun, Ibadan, resulting in the deaths of several minors.
While the case against the three defendants has been dismissed, the tragedy remains a painful memory for the community.
