Journalist Daniel Ojukwu regains freedom after 10 days in detention

A journalist with the Foundation for Investigative Journalism, Daniel Ojukwu has finally regained freedom after being detained by the police for about 10 days.

This is coming on the heels of a massive protest by a host of journalists, activists, and civil society organizations who stormed the police force headquarters in Abuja to demand his release on Thursday.

Ojukwu was quietly whisked away by the police and transferred from Lagos to Abuja with minimal contact allowed him to his family and the outside world.

The police confirmed that Mr Ojukwu was in their custody on Sunday, five days after his sudden disappearance. The journalist is accused of violating the Cybercrime Prohibition act 2015 though he’s yet to be charged to court.

Recall that Fisayo Soyombo the Publisher of FIJ, said Ojukwu was arrested over his investigative work uncovering discrepancies in the government’s budgeting and implementation.

Ojukwu has been pictured with colleagues and associates following his release as more details are expected on the reason for the saga.
