The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has reduced the pump price of petrol at some of its retail stations in Abuja from N1,299 to N1,250 per litre.
The reduction was observed on Tuesday after checks at several NNPCL filling stations across the Federal Capital Territory showed that motorists were now paying N49 less for a litre of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).
The new price was seen at NNPCL outlets in areas including Gwarimpa, Kubwa Expressway, Wuse Zone 4 and Wuse Zone 6.
The latest adjustment means that customers at the affected stations will now pay N1,250 per litre instead of the previous N1,299 price.
The development comes shortly after reports that some motorists had been avoiding NNPCL retail stations because the company’s petrol was selling at a higher price than fuel at some competing outlets.
The change also follows recent price reductions by MRS and other filling station operators linked to the Dangote Refinery. Those outlets had lowered their petrol prices by amounts ranging from N25 to N50 per litre.
Following the latest changes across the market, petrol prices in Abuja and surrounding areas are now generally ranging from about N1,210 to N1,300 per litre, depending on the filling station.
The different pump prices show that competition among fuel sellers continues to affect the cost of petrol in the nation’s capital, with motorists comparing prices before deciding where to buy.
