The Nigerian Patriotic Forum (NPF) has announced that there are plans by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to re-arrest the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, despite a court order granting him bail after 151 days in detention.

In a statement signed by its president, Samuel Lawson Ajibade, on Thursday, the Forum advised the EFCC to respect the judiciary and warned against using the anti-graft agency as a tool for witch-hunting and political feuds.

The Forum added that the move by the EFCC has received presidential authorization while warning that such actions directly sabotage the independence of the judiciary and disregard established court orders, which pose a threat to the country’s democratic system.

They also called on all stakeholders, including the government, judiciary, and law enforcement agencies, to make sure justice is served and the sanctity of the judicial process is maintained.
