The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and its 2027 presidential candidate Peter Obi, have reacted to a Federal High Court ruling in Lokoja, Kogi State.
The court had directed the Independent National Electoral Commission to recognize the NDC as a political party until all legal issues surrounding its formation are resolved.
In response, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) said it disagrees with the ruling and is already heading to the Court of Appeal.
The party maintained that it remains legally registered and continues its political activities without interruption.
The party also said the decision does not cancel its registration and insisted that it has already carried out internal processes such as membership drives, meetings, and preparation for elections.
“There was no order directing our deregistration. However, we are dissatisfied with the decision that has been made, and we have instructed our team of lawyers to immediately proceed to the Court of Appeal,” it said.
The party added: “We assure the general public, and particularly our candidates at all levels, that our party is on course. The NDC has not been deregistered, and we are challenging today’s order at the Court of Appeal as soon as possible.”
Peter Obi described the court ruling as a challenge rather than a final setback.
He urged supporters to remain calm while legal teams review the judgment and prepare further action.
