The Labour Party Presidential candidate Peter Obi, has been slammed with a N50 million lawsuit by a child rights activist Wale Ojo-Lanre, over the involvement of Chioma Success, the viral little girl in one of his political rallies.
The suit seeks to take the child away from her mother and place her in foster care till she becomes of legal age.
The suit which is hinged on negligence also seeks to disqualify Peter Obi for allegedly encouraging the use of the toddler in the rally.
NAN reports that other respondents in the suit marked ID/6332GCM/ 2022 included the Labour Party, Queen (mother of the underage), the federal government and the attorney general of the federation.
Mr Ojo-Lanre said he was seeking a court order to foster the child
“to any welfare home under the accreditation and supervision of the federal ministry of women affairs or other appropriate authorities for proper care, education, protection and upbringing until she turns 18 years.”
“In addition, we seek an order to disqualify the second respondent from participating in the 2023 presidential election for condoning, adopting, encouraging and allowing the usage of the toddler for his rally,” stated Mr Ojo-Lanre.
Recall the little girl earlier identified as Chioma Success was praised by Obi himself following the rally.
He had tweeted:
“The fight to take Nigeria back is for the sake of this little girl, Chioma, and for the sake of every Nigerian child – Amina, Yinka, Akpan, Abdul, Asake- including the unborn children. Chioma is now the poster child of this seminal campaign and process of national rebirth. I salute her passion and innocent gravitas. -PO.”
Dockaysworld had reported that chioma’s father who had been missing from her life had suddenly returned, seeking to become a part of her life and her mother’s following her new fame which was accompanied by monetary gifts and other donations.
