MultiChoice Nigeria has reduced the price of its DStv decoder by half, bringing it down from ₦20,000 to ₦10,000.
The new price took effect on Tuesday, June 25, 2025.
The company made the move to draw in new users and win back old subscribers, following a sharp drop in its customer base.
Between March 2023 and March 2025, MultiChoice lost about 1.4 million subscribers, many of whom were affected by rising costs.
To make up for the losses and give customers more value, the company also rolled out a new offer.
Between June 16 and July 31, 2025, subscribers who pay fully for their current plan will get an automatic upgrade to the next DStv package at no extra cost.
MultiChoice says these steps were taken in response to how much the economy is affecting daily life in Nigeria.
The company explained that its new approach is part of the “We Got You” campaign, aimed at offering more than just sports content.
By making its packages more affordable, MultiChoice hopes to help more Nigerians enjoy different kinds of programs, including movies, children’s shows, drama series, and news.
The company also said it wants viewers to explore more content daily instead of tuning in only for football matches.
They should reduce the price of subscription since they’ve turn deaf ear to the cvry of there subscribers to adopt Pay As You Go as its been done on Electricity or they introduce recharge card process where you recharge, if your money finishes, you go off.
The should reduce their subscription price and adopt the MTN model. Pay as u go.
This idea is hundred percent supported. Pay as you go is what is tenable and even free to air decoders are good.
There is no need reducing the package, but they should rather cut down the recharge plan by 50% & introduce pay as you watch
Multichoice has just scratched the problem. They are supposed to reduce the subscription fees for all their products so that these 1.4m subscribers , excluding GOtv subscribers lost within the period under review, will start subscription again. How many people do they think will key into this new offer. They should rather reduce the subscription fees for both DSTV and GOtv, so as to win back their lost customers and those thinking of withdrawal. .
Dstv will continue to lose customers/subscribers if they refuse to follow civilised trend of doingbusiness. Dstv knows the problem we have in Nigeria with electricity. Even eve you reduce the cost of your decoder to one naira, without reducing your subscription charges or make your subscribers to pay according to what they use, like is done with electricity, your subscribers will continue to desert you. You are indeed reaping off Nigerians.
Reducing DSTV Decoder cost is deceptive, if they really want to do anything for us, they should reduce SUBSCRIPTION fees. Even with GOTV, you cannot view WWE with 8,900 monthly, but 11,400. Too exploitative!
The price reduction is a welcome idea. I hope the government will do something about our electricity to make it stable so that we can enjoy the new price
They should continue to turn deaf ears, customers will just leave them and opt for smart television where they can connect their monthly data and watch various applications, such as YouTube etc.
They don’t know that Nigerians will rather enjoy using their smart phones than decoder if they fail to reduce their subscriptions.
People now enjoy their smart phones than decoder. So, it’s not a situation of begging Multi Choice to reduce their cost of subscriptions. They should be smart about it. They should learn from digital photography.
