Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi, the alleged Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC), has been arrested.
He was apprehended shortly after a Federal High Court in Abuja ordered his arrest over allegations of forgery, fraud and impersonation.
His arrest came shortly after Justice Mohammed Umar issued a bench warrant following Adeyemi’s failure to appear before the court for his scheduled arraignment on an eight-count charge.
The prosecution had told the court that the defendant had repeatedly failed to attend proceedings despite several adjournments.
The court noted that although the case was filed in November 2025, Adeyemi had appeared only once and had missed four consecutive hearing dates before ordering security agencies to arrest and produce him before the court.
Before his arrest, Adeyemi had insisted that he was not evading security agencies.
In a television interview on Monday, he said he withdrew from public view because of alleged threats to his life.
He also claimed there had been attempts on his life and maintained that he was willing to face trial when his safety could be guaranteed.
The police investigation into the matter began after the Office of the Chief of Staff to the President petitioned the Inspector-General of Police over alleged forged appointment letters said to have originated from the office.
Investigators later alleged that appointment letters, official seals, reference numbers, signatures and other government documents were forged to create the impression that the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council was a legitimate federal government agency.
Police also alleged that Adeyemi presented himself as the Director-General of the council and operated from an office within the Federal Secretariat Complex in Abuja.
The case drew further attention after Adeyemi alleged that he paid N400 million through a proxy to secure the appointment.
He also called for an independent investigation into the controversy surrounding an alleged N1.3 billion budget allocation linked to the council in the 2026 Appropriation Bill.
Adeyemi has continued to deny wrongdoing and insists that the PFIPC is a legitimate organisation.
His arrest is expected to pave the way for his arraignment before the Federal High Court as the criminal case against him moves forward.
