Enugu State Commissioner for Transport, Dr. Obi Ozor, has reportedly resigned from his position amid allegations surrounding an Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) investigation.
Ozor, who was appointed by Governor Peter Mbah in August 2023, was reportedly directed to vacate his office by the Secretary to the Enugu State Government, Prof. Chidi Onyia.
His resignation has not been officially announced by the Enugu State Government.
Sources familiar with the development told Sahara Reporters that Ozor’s office at the Ministry of Transport in Independence Layout, opposite Universal Hotel near WAEC Junction, had remained locked for about three days.
The development has reportedly prevented the commissioner from accessing his office and has raised concerns within the ministry.
This development followed an earlier petition allegedly submitted by the state government to the EFCC over claims involving billions of naira.
Ozor was subsequently reportedly arrested and detained at the EFCC Enugu Zonal Office alongside his wife for two days.
They were later released after records reviewed during the investigation did not establish that Ozor had stolen or diverted state funds.
However, after his release, Ozor was reportedly unable to return to his office because it had been locked.
He was also said to have been absent from the weekly State Executive Council meetings at the Government House for about two weeks.
A retired Permanent Secretary, Mr. Nnam Okoh, had been recalled to oversee the ministry.
Okoh is reportedly related to Governor Mbah, despite the ministry already having a serving Permanent Secretary.
