State governor hands over power to deputy
Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has handed over the administration of the state to Deputy Governor Bayo Lawal as he prepares to begin his annual leave from August 10.
The transfer of power followed the approval of the governor’s request by the Oyo State House of Assembly during Thursday’s plenary.
In a letter sent to the lawmakers, Makinde informed the House that he would be away on leave from August 10 to September 11 and would return to office on September 14.
The governor also notified the Assembly that Lawal would oversee the affairs of the state throughout his absence.
The letter was read during the sitting by Deputy Speaker Muhammed Fadeyi, who presided over the plenary in place of Speaker Adebo Ogundoyin.
After considering the request, members of the Assembly gave their approval without objection.
They expressed confidence that government activities would continue smoothly under the deputy governor during the leave period.
The lawmakers directed Lawal to supervise the daily administration of the state and ensure that government programmes and public services continue without interruption until Makinde resumes official duties.
Following the approval, Fadeyi wished the governor a peaceful and restful vacation.
He also said the House would continue to maintain a good working relationship with the executive arm in the interest of the people of Oyo State.
The deputy speaker added that the deputy governor has the experience to lead the state during the period and said the existing structure of government would ensure continuity in governance and the implementation of ongoing policies until the governor returns.
