Trump reveals who should succeed Pope Francis

United States President, Donald Trump has revealed that Cardinal Timothy Dolan of New York is someone he sees as a good fit to succeed the late Pope Francis.

He made the remark on Tuesday while speaking with reporters about who might become the next leader of the Catholic Church.

Trump also made a funny comment saying he would like to be pope himself, calling it his number one choice.

After the joke, he added that he didn’t have a particular candidate in mind but spoke well of Cardinal Dolan, suggesting he would be a good option.

Despite the mention, Dolan is not currently among the top names being considered for the position.

Another American, Cardinal Joseph Tobin from Newark, New Jersey, is said to be on the shortlist, although no American has ever held the role of pope.

While Trump and Pope Francis had several differences in the past, especially when it came to immigration, the president and his wife, Melania, were present at the funeral mass for the late pontiff.

The funeral, held over the weekend, brought together world leaders and religious figures from many countries to honor the pope, who made history as the first from Latin America.

The Catholic Church will begin the process to choose a new pope on May 7, when about 135 cardinals from across the world will enter a closed-door meeting known as a conclave.
