Oluwagbenga Abiola, the Vice Chairman of Agege Local Government and a top contender in the upcoming July 12, 2025, council election, has stepped down from the race to support Abdulganiyu Obasa, the son of the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa.
Abiola said he fully supports Abdulganiyu’s candidacy as the APC’s chosen representative and remains loyal to both the party and Speaker Obasa, who he credits for shaping his political journey.
He recalled that Obasa gave him his first political appointment as a special assistant in 2015, helped him become the youngest council boss in Lagos in 2016, and later supported his rise to Secretary and then Vice Chairman of Agege LG.
While Abiola admitted he had hoped to become council chairman, he said he respects the party’s decision and will not oppose the choice to support Obasa’s son.
According to him, his goal has always been to serve the people, and he believes more opportunities will come in the future.
He also directed his supporters in the Obasa Youth Alliance to back the party’s decision.
