The chairperson of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has been dragged by Citizens for calling one of them ‘ode’.
This happened after a follower had referred to her as a ‘mumu’ and tagged her a part of a failed government.
The user had written:
“She should go to Indonesia and see how Nigerians are treated. Mumu woman supporting a failed government. She’s equally part of the failure. Eye service!”
Abike then responded:
“Ode! You go to Indonesia, carry drugs, do cultism and come begging to be rescued from death sentence. Thank God for @ndlea_nigeria now saving people like you from death row”
Former minister of education Oby Ezekwesili had tried to reign in the diplomat by saying;
“What is this? Kai. This is messy. Please clean it up. Quickly. Please.”
Abike then replied:
“I’m done on this . But out of respect for you, will ask, Clean what up? It’s okay for some untrained, uncouth guy to refer to me as ” mumu” and I can’t call him ” ode”l’m not a public official that cows to bullying pls.
Abike who’s known for being outspoken has garnered support from fellow supporters, most of whom are APC members.
See some reactions gathered by Dockaysworld;
“Ode” isn’t the issue here. Look at the stereotyping you dropped there.
As a diplomat, you are the last person to do such thing. Please.
@ChudeMedia says, “As a public officer holder, this woman should be sanctioned or sacked for this single tweet but don’t working system in Nigeria. This is why people like this continue to abuse public offices without punishment. A lot is going to change when Peter”Obi becomes the president
@gimbakakanda says, “As a public servant, I get that Abike Dabiri ought to demonstrate emotional intelligence in interactions like this. But I don’t get how her tweet qualifies for ethnic profiling, as some have inferred, unless they are saying drug-pushing is reserved for a specific ethnic group.”
@wakawaka_doctor says “This is your classic example Square pegs in round holes.Another public official who has zero clue and no idea what she is doing”
@I_Am_Ilemona says “There’s probably an Indonesian official reading this tweet and thinking “Be harder on the Nigerians. After all their govt knows they are all drug peddlers and cultists.
@KadunaResident says “Zero class, no shame. Imagine Amoda Ogunlere (aka Tinubu) getting power and appointing this one as minister. Vote wisely”
@iSlimfit says, “This is not it at all! When will public officials learn decorum, especially on Social Media, knowing fully well that whatever they say has a big implication on the already-dented image of the country.”
@Sujodamystique “When foreign countries are meeting to discuss stopping Nigerians from coming to their country they can always bring up these tweets like“look at what their own officials say about them””
@elnathan_ john says, “Again, people like this have no business in public office. But because shame goes to die in Nigeria, you can be a public official tweeting idiotic things like this and still keep your job. The bar is so low. So so low.”
