Ibom Air passenger dies during flight
A male passenger lost his life on Sunday while traveling on an Ibom Air flight from Lagos to Abuja.
The passenger reportedly developed health complications about 20 minutes after the plane took off.
Crew members quickly tried to administer first aid, while the pilot contacted the control tower at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport to declare a medical emergency.
Because of heavy air traffic, the aircraft was eventually directed to the Presidential Wing, where ambulances and medical staff were waiting.
Despite the swift response, efforts to revive the passenger after landing were not successful.
The incident has triggered discussions on social media about the ability of Nigerian airlines to handle medical emergencies during flights.
Many have expressed worry over how prepared crews are to deal with sudden health issues in the air.
As at the time of filing this report, Ibom Air and the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria has not released any official statement on the death.
The identity of the deceased and the cause of death remain unknown.
