Mega Afrobeats singer David Adeleke, also known as Davido, has been appointed the chairman of the Osun State Sports Trust Fund.
The announcement was made by the Osun State Government as part of efforts to mobilize resources for the transformation of the state’s sports sector.
The initiative also aligns with ongoing projects to upgrade the Osogbo Township Stadium to Olympic standards.
According to the state government, the revamped stadium is expected to become a world-class facility capable of hosting both national and international sporting events. The administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke, says the move reflects its broader vision for sports development and youth engagement in Osun State.
Confirming the appointment, Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi, who also serves as the Commissioner for Sports, said the creation of a Sports Trust Fund would help attract investments and support from individuals and organizations within and outside Nigeria.
He said:
“Ongoing renovation and rehabilitation of the Osogbo Township Stadium to meet Olympic standards – a project that will be completed in the shortest possible time.
I am pleased to inform you that plans are in advanced stages towards the establishment of the Osun State Sports Commission, which will serve as a central body for sports administration, development, and policy implementation. Introduction of a Sports Trust Fund to attract support from sports philanthropists within and outside the state, ensuring sustainable sports financing and development.
Davido has been appointed to chair the Sports Trust Fund, and he did not hesitate in accepting the appointment. His intervention would attract funds that would impact Osun sports positively.”
