The Lagos State Police Command has announced the death of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Festac Division, CSP Matilda Ngbaronye.
According to a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, Ngbaronye passed away on Friday, October 24, 2025, after undergoing surgery at Mayriamville Medical Centre in Surulere, Lagos.
The Command described her as an upright and dedicated officer who served with professionalism, integrity, and compassion. Her humane approach to policing, it added, helped bridge the gap between the police and the public in Festac and beyond.
“The Command mourns the loss of a truly upright and dedicated officer who served with unwavering professionalism and integrity,” the statement said.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Olohudare Jimoh, has also personally reached out to Ngbaronye’s husband and elder brother, a priest, to convey condolences and offer support to the family.
Her death, described as a rude shock to the entire Command, has left officers and men of the Lagos Police deeply saddened.
Other prominent police officers including Force PRO Ben Hundeyin have publicly expressed their condolences and eulogies.
Burial arrangements will be announced in due course.
