A woman identified as Jane Doe has accused Nigerian rapper Emeka Akumefule, popularly known as Blaqbonez, of harassment, blackmail, and invasion of privacy after she allegedly rejected his romantic advances.
In a public statement released by her lawyers, TIA Solicitors, on Saturday, October 26, the firm alleged that the artist subjected their client to “prolonged and deeply distressing harassment, bullying, and threats” following her decision not to engage in a relationship with him.
According to the statement signed by the firm’s representative, Noel Arthur, Blaqbonez allegedly engaged in blackmail, cyberstalking, and the unlawful procurement and circulation of private, indecent videos of their client without her consent.
The lawyers said the actions had caused their client “immense mental, psychological, and emotional trauma,” adding that repeated appeals for him to desist were ignored. They also accused the rapper of spreading false and damaging information about her, which they said affected her livelihood and safety in Lagos.
As a result, the firm said their client had petitioned the Nigeria Police Force to intervene, citing the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act 2015, the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act 2015, and the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023.
The statement further revealed that legal documents had been served to Blaqbonez’s residence and via mobile on two separate occasions in the last nine months, but the alleged harassment persisted.
In a follow-up letter dated December 30, 2024, the firm demanded that the rapper delete all personal data and video content belonging to their client, issue a public apology, and pay ₦30 million as compensation within seven days.
Failure to comply, they warned, would lead to notifying media houses and streaming platforms about the allegations or filing a lawsuit at the High Court of Lagos State seeking ₦200 million in damages.
