Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has ordered the immediate past deputy governor, Godwin Omobayo, to refund all salaries and allowances received during his brief tenure in office.
The governor gave the directive while speaking at a public event in Benin City, stating that he only recognizes one former deputy governor under the previous administration: Philip Shaibu.
Okpebholo said the move was part of his government’s commitment to accountability and the recovery of all state assets unlawfully retained by former officials.
He reiterated that the Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command, had been directed to ensure full enforcement of the government’s orders, including possible arrest if Omobayo fails to comply.
Recall Dockaysworld reported that the Edo State Government had earlier issued a one-week ultimatum to Omobayo to return official vehicles, documents, and other government property still in his possession.
Omobayo had served briefly as deputy governor following Shaibu’s impeachment in April 2024.
