Former Anambra State governor and 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has expressed concern over the United States’ recent decision to declare Nigeria a “Country of Particular Concern” (CPC) and hint at possible military action.
Obi described the development as troubling for every well-meaning Nigerian, stressing that the country’s worsening security crisis has reached an alarming stage.
He said that Nigeria has continued to experience massive loss of lives and property due to violent attacks and instability.
Citing Amnesty International’s report, he pointed out that over 10,000 people have been killed in Nigeria since May 2023.
He said the continuous and unprovoked killings across the nation remain unacceptable and must be urgently addressed through effective governance and accountability.
Obi faulted the current administration for failing to provide competent and committed leadership capable of securing the nation.
He argued that poor management of resources, lack of patriotism, and weak governance have deepened Nigeria’s insecurity, leaving citizens vulnerable to daily violence.
He also urged the United States and Nigeria to maintain their long-standing diplomatic relationship, noting that both countries share democratic values and a mutual interest in regional peace.
He called for constructive dialogue and cooperation between both nations to resolve Nigeria’s security challenges through peaceful and strategic means.
