Former Labour Party vice presidential candidate, Datti Baba-Ahmed, has lamented the repeated presidential bids of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, saying Atiku has been contesting since his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) days.
He made the remark on Friday during an interview on Channels Television while discussing the state of the nation and the 2027 general elections.
Baba-Ahmed said Nigeria needs a new generation of political leaders, arguing that the recycling of long-standing political figures limits fresh ideas and progress.
He added that Atiku’s plan to contest again shows the urgency for new contenders with a different vision for the country.
He also clarified comments he made two days earlier that were widely interpreted as a declaration of presidential ambition.
According to him, while a future presidential run is possible, he has not formally declared, stressing that his remarks were meant to reaffirm his loyalty to the Labour Party.
