Federal lawmakers dump APC
Two federal lawmakers have left the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as political realignments continue ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi, who represents Osun Central Senatorial District, and Ahmed Yusuf Doro, the House of Representatives member for Bindawa/Mani Federal Constituency in Katsina State, have both announced their return to the PDP.
The defections were made public on Thursday, July 24, 2026.
While Fadeyi confirmed his decision through a resignation letter, Doro’s letter was read during plenary by Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas.
Fadeyi had earlier left the PDP for the APC alongside other lawmakers.
However, he failed to secure the APC senatorial ticket for the 2027 election after the party picked Rasheed Adegoke (SAN) as its candidate for Osun Central.
The outcome led to protests from some of his supporters, who insisted that the ticket should have gone to the serving senator.
Other lawmakers who moved from the PDP to the APC with Fadeyi, including Senator Francis Fadahunsi and House of Representatives members Wole Oke, Taofeek Ajilesoro and Sanya Omirin, all secured APC tickets to seek another term.
In his resignation letter, Fadeyi said he joined the APC believing there was an understanding that he would emerge as the consensus candidate for the Osun Central senatorial seat.
He said he supported President Bola Tinubu in his home state based on assurances that the agreement would be respected.
According to him, the process that eventually produced the party’s candidate did not follow the arrangement he expected and lacked openness. He said this made him lose confidence in the party’s leadership in Osun State.
Despite leaving the APC, Fadeyi said his support for President Tinubu and the Renewed Hope Agenda remains unchanged.
He explained that his decision was not against the President or his administration but was driven by his desire to protect the mandate given to him by the people of Osun Central and uphold democratic principles.
In Katsina State, Ahmed Yusuf Doro also announced his exit from the APC after consulting with his constituents.
In a letter dated July 18, 2026, he said joining the PDP would help him better represent the interests of the people of Bindawa/Mani Federal Constituency.
