Nigerian Senator Resigns From APC
Senator Saliu Mustapha, who represents Kwara Central in the National Assembly, has resigned his membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Mustapha announced his resignation on Thursday through his verified Facebook page, attaching a letter dated August 14, 2026, and addressed to the APC chairman of Gambari Ward 1 in Ilorin East Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The senator said he decided to leave the party after holding consultations with political stakeholders, supporters and residents across Kwara Central and other parts of the state.
He said recent developments within the Kwara State chapter of the APC influenced his decision to quit the party.
Mustapha was elected into the Senate on the APC platform and has been one of the notable members of the party in the state.
He said his political journey had always been based on serving the people and staying committed to his principles.
He explained that leaving the party became necessary after he reached the view that its current direction no longer matched his political beliefs and the expectations of the people he represents.
The lawmaker thanked the APC leadership, including President Bola Tinubu, for the relationships and experiences he gained during his years in the party.
He also assured his constituents and supporters that his departure from the APC would not reduce his commitment to representing them at the Senate.
Mustapha said he would continue working for the interests of people in Kwara Central, Kwara State and Nigeria, even though his political platform had changed.
