Lagos government announces new requirement for admission
The Lagos State Government has introduced a new requirement for pupils and students seeking admission or enrolment into public and private schools across the state.
The government has made registration with the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency compulsory from the 2026/2027 academic session.
The new rule will take effect from Monday, September 14, 2026, with schools expected to obtain and record the valid LASRRA registration number of every learner as part of their admission and enrolment procedures.
The directive was issued through the Office of Education Quality Assurance following approval by the Lagos State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Tolani Alli-Balogun.
The government said the move was designed to create a complete and reliable database of learners living and attending schools in Lagos.
Under the new arrangement, both public and private schools will be expected to include the LASRRA registration number of each learner in their admission documents and other school records.
School authorities will also be responsible for informing parents and guardians about the new requirement and encouraging those whose children are yet to register to do so before the new academic session begins.
The state government said having accurate information on learners would make it easier to plan and manage the education sector.
The database is also expected to support better monitoring of learners, improve the keeping of school records and make it easier for authorities to confirm the identities of pupils and students.
