Social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, has apologised to security forces over his controversial remarks at the Nigerian Bar Association’s 66th Annual General Conference.
Otse had described soldiers, police officers, customs and immigration personnel as “unknown gunmen” while speaking about insecurity in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
In a video shared on Friday, he admitted that his remarks were unfair to security personnel genuinely risking their lives to protect Nigerians.
“I don’t think I was fair to a lot of people in that speech,” he said.
Otse said his criticism was directed at alleged “bad eggs” within the security agencies and not personnel serving the country.
He particularly apologised to soldiers fighting Boko Haram, saying, “these people have laid down their lives.”
He also apologised to the Chief of Defence Staff, security agency leaders and families of fallen personnel.
However, Otse maintained his allegations against personnel involved in corruption, sabotage and leaking information to terrorists.
“To the bad eggs, your days are numbered,” he said.
He urged genuine security personnel not to be discouraged by his comments, assuring them that Nigerians would continue to support them.
