Wike declares next Rivers Governor

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Rivers State, Kingsley Chinda, as the next governor of the state.

Wike made his position known during a reception organised in his honour by Ogbakor Ikwerre, the socio-cultural body representing the Ikwerre people, at Obiri-Ehie in Rivers State.

During the event, the former Rivers State governor presented Chinda to members of the gathering as the person he expects to succeed Governor Siminalayi Fubara after the 2027 governorship election.

Chinda, who represents a constituency in the House of Representatives, has a long political relationship with Wike.

He previously served as the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives and has remained closely associated with the former governor through several political developments in Rivers State.

Wike’s endorsement comes amid preparations by political parties and their candidates for the 2027 elections.

The Rivers governorship race is expected to attract strong competition as different political groups work to secure support across the state.

Chinda’s emergence as the APC candidate has also placed him at the centre of the party’s efforts to strengthen its position in Rivers State.

His relationship with Wike is expected to remain an important part of the political campaign as the election draws closer.

Governor Fubara is expected to leave office at the end of his current tenure, as he has chosen not to seek another term in the 2027 governorship election.
