To promote gender inclusivity, the Bola Tinubu-led government has officially revised the recruitment guidelines for the Civil Defence, Fire, Correctional, and Immigration Services.

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, announced that 35 per cent of recruitment slots would be reserved for women in these crucial services.

The decision comes after a meeting of the Board of the Civil Defence, Fire, Correctional, and Immigration Services held in Abuja on Friday.

Represented by the Secretary of the Board, Ja’afaru Ahmed, Tunji-Ojo outlined the fundamental principles that will guide the ongoing recruitment process.

“The federal government, through the Board, has approved the review of the guidelines for recruitment into and promotion in all the four services under the Ministry of Interior,” Tunji-Ojo stated.

“This development also comes with the modernization of the operations of the Nigeria Immigration Service, encompassing training, recruitment, promotion, professionalism, capacity building, and the deployment of cutting-edge technologies,” he added.

The minister emphasized that the recruitment process would prioritize professionalism, adherence to Federal Character principles, and, most importantly, gender mainstreaming.

He said the move aligns with the government’s commitment to fostering diversity and ensuring equal opportunities for men and women within the public sector.

Tunji-Ojo further disclosed that the services would release specific timelines for the recruitment process in due course, signalling a transparent and organized approach to implementing the new guidelines.
