The Labour Party has firmly denied claims that its 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, is about to be expelled from the party.
The party, under the leadership of Acting National Chairman Senator Nenadi Usman, described the individuals spreading this information as impostors with no connection to the party.
The rumours reportedly began after Abayomi Arabambi, a former factional spokesperson of the party, appeared on Channels Television and suggested that plans were underway to remove Obi.
In response, Ken Eluma Asogwa, Senior Special Adviser to the Acting Chairman, released a statement dismissing the claim as a desperate attempt by unknown individuals to cause confusion.
According to the statement, these individuals are political jesters acting on behalf of hidden forces trying to disrupt ongoing coalition efforts involving Peter Obi.
The party described the idea of expelling Obi as both ridiculous and unlawful, urging Nigerians to ignore what it called the rantings of people who have no legal standing within the Labour Party.
The party stated that it fully supports Obi’s participation in coalition talks aimed at shaping Nigeria’s political future.
They reminded the public that a statement released on May 25, 2025, had already made this clear.
The statement also referenced a Supreme Court ruling from April 4, 2025, which confirmed that the people claiming authority within the party had long lost their legal right to act on its behalf.
Therefore, any pronouncement made by them is considered invalid.
The Labour Party advised the public and media to only rely on official communication from the office of the Acting National Chairman for credible updates about the party’s activities.
