Aunty Esther, the cancer patient whose case drew national attention following a controversial crowdfunding campaign, has died after a prolonged battle with breast cancer.
The X(formerly known as Twitter) vendor’s passing was confirmed by her caregiver, Auntymuse, who reacted to a post announcing the death with the words, “May her soul rest in peace,” effectively confirming the development.
Recall Dockaysworld reported that Aunty Esther had earlier declined a blood transfusion recommended by doctors due to her religious beliefs as a Jehovah’s Witness, despite over N30 million being raised online for her medical care.
The decision had led to a public fallout between her caregivers, medical volunteers, and family members, with key fundraisers eventually stepping away from the case.
