Bandits Abduct Dangote Cement Workers in Edo state


Bandits have attacked a staff bus transporting Dangote cement workers on monday evening and kidnapped a number of the passengers in Edo state.

The attack occured specifically in Okpella, near Okene in Edo State and the assailants abducted an unspecified number of the workers while shooting others.

Witnesses reported that the workers were ambushed while returning from work.

The severity of the injuries sustained was unclear as of Monday evening, with some workers reported to be in the bush, including one with bullet wounds.

A witness said that the coaster bus carrying staff was attacked, leading to the abduction of the entire staff.

People’s Gazette reports that Michael Odofin, a spokesperson for Okpella Cement Plc, confirmed the incident but couldn’t provide many details as the situation was still unfolding, although he mentioned that no fatalities were reported yet.

“Other people are in the bush. My colleague has bullet wounds. A coaster bus filled with staff was attacked at Okpella. Kidnappers,” a witness said. “They kidnapped our whole staff bus. Kidnappers took our staff.”

Michael Odofin, a spokesperson for Okpella Cement Plc, confirmed the attack and abduction.

“I cannot give any details right now. The attack is still fresh. We have no one killed,” said Mr Odofin.
