Former Adamawa State governorship candidate, Senator Aishatu Binani, has defected to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), marking another political shift ahead of the 2027 elections.
Her move comes nine months after she left the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Speaking after receiving her membership card, Binani said her decision was driven by the NDC’s focus on governance and the wishes of her supporters.
“The answer is quite simple. After carefully studying the party’s constitution, I saw a strong commitment to structured, policy-driven governance,” she said.
She acknowledged her recent political movements, noting that “politics is dynamic and often local in nature,” while stressing that her decisions are guided by prevailing realities.
Binani said the push to join the NDC came largely from her political base, which she described as central to her career.
She added that her supporters had already made significant progress within the party before her formal entry and claimed Adamawa now has one of the largest NDC memberships.
“All we ask for is fairness, equity, justice, transparency, and, most importantly, the strengthening of internal democracy within the party,” she stated.
Welcoming her, NDC National Leader, Senator Seriake Dickson, described the party as open and inclusive, adding that leadership of the party in Adamawa had effectively been handed to Binani.
“This party is open, inclusive, and ready to harness your energy, ideas, and strength,” he said.
Dickson also used the opportunity to invite other politicians to join the NDC, urging those dissatisfied with their current platforms not to feel constrained.
He noted that no law prevents politicians from leaving a party that no longer aligns with their interests.
