Popular Nigerian comedian Bright Okpocha, widely known as Basketmouth, has publicly extended an apology to his long-time rival in the comedy industry, Ayodeji Richard Makun, alias AY.

This reconciliation comes after a 17-year-old feud that had garnered significant attention over the years.

The feud between Basketmouth and AY had been a subject of interest for fans and industry insiders alike.

In 2021, Basketmouth revealed during a Black Box interview with Ebuka Obi-Uchendu that their fallout was rooted in a breach of loyalty, stating,

To be honest, I don’t want that guy (AY) to ever hear from me.

He also emphasized that they were never really friends.

In a separate interview with Chude Jideonwo in May 2023, AY shed light on the origin of their dispute, attributing it to a business transaction gone sour back in 2006.

However, Basketmouth, who is gearing up for an upcoming show in November, decided to take the initiative to mend fences and seek forgiveness from AY and anyone else he may have offended over the years.

In a heartfelt video posted on his Instagram page, Basketmouth addressed the industry and those beyond, expressing his sincere remorse.

He stated,

Now to all the people in the industry and beyond that I have offended. I’m saying this to you right now from the bottom of my heart, I’m genuinely sorry, please forgive me.

Specifically addressing AY, he continued,

Now to my guy AY, I don’t know if my apology is still valid right now but if it is, please forgive me for whatever I have done or said in the past that affected you in any way, forgive me.

Basketmouth also acknowledged that this apology coincided with his upcoming show’s ticket sales, but he reiterated his sincerity in seeking reconciliation, saying,

Now for the people who are assuming that this apology video is birthed because I have a show coming up on the 26th of November, I would like to say you are absolutely correct. I’m trying to sell tickets for my show, but I’m also sorry for everything that I have done.
