The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested embattled former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele.

Emefiele was picked up by the anti-graft agency shortly after his release by the Department of State Services (DSS) on Thursday night.

The APC presidential aspirant was detained by the DSS after being suspended by President Tinubu.

He is currently being grilled at the EFCC headquarters in Jabi, Abuja over alleged misconduct and misallocation of funds during his tenure as the head of the apex bank.

If at the end of the interrogation, he is found guilty, the EFCC may file fresh charges against him.

A source who spoke to Punch Newspaper said:

“Yes, Emefiele is currently in our (EFCC) custody; he was arrested last night less than an hour after the DSS freed him. He’s currently being interrogated at the Headquarters, as he’s being investigated for alleged misappropriation of funds amongst other things during his term as CBN governor.”

In September, Emefiele’s resignation was confirmed after Olayemi Cardoso was appointed the new CBN Governor.
