Former Nigerian minister dumps APC
Former Petroleum minister Timipre Sylva has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The former Bayelsa governor said his decision followed concerns over the direction of the party and the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
Sylva announced his withdrawal from the APC on Monday in a resignation letter addressed to the party leadership in Ward 4, Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
He also sent a copy of the letter to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The former governor, who was among the founding members of the APC, said he had reached the decision after discussions with members of his family, associates, political colleagues and supporters.
He accused the ruling party of moving away from the principles that guided its formation.
According to him, the political platform had failed to maintain the values that attracted him and other members to it.
Sylva also expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of the federal government under the APC, saying he had not seen enough effort to change what he described as the poor direction of the administration.
He further stated that Nigerians were likely to use the 2027 general elections to seek a new political direction.
