Full Breakdown of Nigerian soldiers new salaries

President Bola Tinubu has approved a new salary structure for members of the Nigerian Armed Forces, raising the pay of military personnel by between 30 and 80 per cent.

The new salaries will take effect from September 1, with about 250,000 service members expected to benefit from the review.

The approval was announced in a statement issued by the President’s spokesman, Bayo Onanuga.

Under the new arrangement, personnel from the rank of private to staff sergeant will receive an 80 per cent salary increase.

Those from warrant officer to colonel will have their salaries increased by 50 per cent, while officers from brigadier general to general will receive a 30 per cent increase.

Documents obtained by LEADERSHIP showed that before the latest review, a private earned about ₦104,000 monthly, while a lance corporal received about ₦112,000. A corporal earned roughly ₦115,000, while a sergeant received between ₦120,000 and ₦130,000.

Following the new salary structure, a private is expected to earn about ₦188,000 monthly, while a lance corporal will receive around ₦202,000.

A corporal will earn about ₦208,000, a sergeant about ₦226,000 and a staff sergeant around ₦271,000.

Among commissioned officers, a second lieutenant is projected to earn about ₦293,000 monthly, while a lieutenant will receive about ₦420,000.

A captain is expected to earn around ₦488,000, a major about ₦571,000, a lieutenant colonel about ₦631,000 and a colonel around ₦871,000.

Senior officers will also benefit from the review.

A brigadier general is projected to earn about ₦976,000 monthly, while a major general could receive about ₦1.5 million.

A lieutenant general is expected to earn around ₦2.02 million, while a general may receive about ₦2.8 million under the new structure.

However, military sources said the exact salaries for each rank will only be confirmed when the detailed implementation guidelines are officially released.
