Popular Nollywood actress Tope Osoba dies after cancer battle

Nollywood actress and producer Temitope Osoba, popularly known as Tope Osoba, has died after battling breast cancer.

The actress, who was reported to be 40, passed away on Wednesday, months after returning to acting following treatment for the illness. Her family has yet to disclose the cause of her death.

Her death was announced by fellow actress Foluke Daramola in an Instagram post, leaving colleagues and fans in mourning.

In November 2024, Osoba appealed for financial support after undergoing her first breast cancer surgery. At the time, Daramola disclosed that she needed a second operation, estimated to cost about N12 million, to remove the remaining cancerous particles.

The actress had also sought support from the president of the Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN), Bolaji Amusan.

Speaking in an earlier interview with BBC News Yoruba, Osoba recalled discovering a lump in her breast during a routine self-examination. She said the lump was initially dismissed by a doctor as being related to childbirth before further tests confirmed it was cancer.

Describing the moment she received the diagnosis, Osoba said it was “one of the worst days of my life.”
