How Churches, Mosques, Homes, have been submerged by water in Lokoja flood [video]

The Lokoja flood has taken a further downturn as more houses, churches and mosques have been fully submerged in the waters during the rainy season.

Many passengers have been seen boarding canoes to pass through the flooded part of the highway to the other side of Lokoja to continue their journey.

Also, many houses at Gadumo, Adankolo, Kpata and Marines quarters in Lokoja as well as churches, mosques and business centres were submerged by flood.

According to the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has said that no fewer than 18,406 persons have been displaced by flood in 14 local government areas of the state.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the flooding covered the portion of the road at Ganaja village such that only by canoes that the commuters could cross the flooding.

Residents note that the road is strategic to socio-economic activities, linking Kogi state to the eastern part of the country which has been made inaccessible now to motorists and commuters by flooding.

According to them, canoe operators have cashed in on the development, charging passengers between N50 and N100 to ferry them across the flooded road.
