His Royal Highness, Adekoya Adeolu Olaonipekun, a king of the Ashasa kingdom of Agbowa, in Lagos State has fled his ancestral throne and community to save his daughter from the traditional ritual of female genital mutilation (FGM).
This was disclosed through the twitter page of the Girdle Advocacy Projects, an organization dedicated to fighting abuse against women and children. According to the organization the king had fled with his second daughter after his home was repeatedly invaded in the search of his daughter.
The monarch had lost his first daughter to complications from female circumcision which she’d undergone. She had been infected with tetanus as a result of the mutilation which eventually led to her demise.
Dockaysworld learnt that that the traditional council in the community had given Adekoya an ultimatum to surrender his daughter but the king had chosen to flee instead.
The tweets read,
