The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 49-year-old suspected drug trafficker, Innocent Ekpe, for allegedly impersonating a senior police officer while transporting illicit drugs.
Ekpe was arrested on September 16 along the Benin-Onitsha Expressway in Asaba, Delta State, with 292.48kg of cannabis concealed in his Toyota Sienna bus.
The NDLEA said Ekpe allegedly identified himself as Godwin Emeka, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, and used a forged police identification card to evade scrutiny at checkpoints.
A suspected accomplice, 39-year-old Nduka Joseph, was also arrested.
The agency said the arrests were part of a series of operations across eight states and the Federal Capital Territory, during which more than 1.3 million opioid pills and capsules and 6,000kg of cannabis were seized.
