Nigerian Airlines Increase Flight Ticket Prices
Nigerian airlines have increased the cost of domestic flight tickets, with base fares now reaching about N200,000 and higher for a one-way trip.
The new prices show a sharp rise across several major airline operators in the country.
The increase is linked to the rising cost of aviation fuel, known as Jet A1, which now sells for about N2,650 per litre at airports nationwide. This has placed heavy pressure on airline operations and running costs, forcing carriers to adjust their fares.
Checks on booking platforms show that United Nigeria Airlines now sets its minimum fare at around N200,000 for domestic routes. Air Peace has raised its fares to about N211,600, while Ibom Air now charges roughly N200,300 for similar routes.
Other airlines have slightly lower rates. Arik Air prices range between N113,000 and N114,000 on the Abuja to Lagos route. Aero Contractors tickets fall between N123,127 and N146,702 depending on the route, while ValueJet fares range from about N118,571 to N132,857 for Lagos to Abuja flights.
Industry sources said the increase is driven by high fuel prices, rising debts, and low cash flow within the aviation sector. They explained that airlines can no longer absorb the cost of operations without adjusting ticket prices, warning that continued pressure could affect the survival of domestic carriers.
They also noted that the changes were made by individual airlines based on their own financial situation and not through a joint agreement. Passengers have been asked to understand the situation as operators try to remain in business.
