Police arrest state commissioner
The Delta State Police Command has arrested the state Commissioner for Secondary Education, Dr Kingsley Ashibogwu, and three other suspects in connection with the death of Unity Ekpevbughe Adeda, a Deputy Director in the state Ministry of Secondary Education.
The latest arrests bring to five the number of people currently being held by the police as part of the investigation into the circumstances surrounding Adeda’s death.
The Police Public Relations Officer in Delta State, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Monday night.
According to the police, Ashibogwu and the three other suspects were taken into custody as investigators continued efforts to establish what led to the death of the deputy director.
The command has also commenced a search for two other persons it considers important to the investigation.
They are Mrs Clemetine Ufuoma, the Director of Basic and Secondary Education, and Clement Apia, who works as the driver to the Commissioner for Secondary Education.
The police said the two individuals are needed by investigators to assist with the ongoing inquiry and urged them to report to the command without further delay.
The Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Samuel E. Erale, directed that the investigation be handled in line with due process. The command said the inquiry would be conducted thoroughly and without bias, with anyone found responsible expected to face the law.
The police also assured Adeda’s family and members of the public that investigators would work to establish the facts surrounding his death.
The command expressed sympathy to the family of the deceased as investigations continue.
