A police officer on guard duty at a private engineering firm in Durumi, Abuja, has been found dead with a gunshot wound to his chest.
The officer, identified as ASP Norbert Odale, was discovered inside the security room at Eunell Engineering Company at about 7:30 a.m. on Monday, September 7.
Odale, with AP/No. 203734, was reportedly stationed at the company alongside Police Constable Shuaibu Danjuma, who raised the alarm after his colleague failed to respond when he knocked on the security room door.
An incident report from the Mpape Police Division said Odale’s rifle, bearing breach number 07006497, was recovered at the scene alongside 29 rounds of ammunition and one expended round.
The report added that the rifle chamber was open while the weapon remained cocked.
“Preliminary investigation reveals X deceased is suspected to have committed suicide X while on duty at the said beat,” the report stated.
Police said photographs were taken at the scene before Odale’s remains were moved to Wuse General Hospital for certification and preservation.
The circumstances surrounding the officer’s death remain under investigation, while efforts are ongoing to contact his family.
The report stated: “The deceased was met in the pool of his blood with a bullet shot to his chest. His riffle with breach No. 07006497, 29 rounds of ammunition, one expended ammunition were all recovered at the scene.”
