Politician rejects Atiku’s appointment
Former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Kingsley Moghalu, has rejected his inclusion in the policy team of the African Democratic Congress presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, for the 2027 election.
Moghalu made this known in a statement shared on his X handle on Thursday, shortly after Atiku’s campaign unveiled its Presidential Campaign Council.
His name was listed among members of the campaign’s Policy Team, which is chaired by economist and banker Mohammed Hayatudeen, with Professor Mohammed Sagagi serving as deputy chairman.
However, Moghalu said he was neither consulted nor asked for his consent before his name was included in the campaign structure.
He stated that he was not a member of Atiku’s policy team and had no advisory role in the campaign.
Moghalu, who contested the 2019 presidential election on the platform of the Young Progressives Party, said he had left partisan politics in Nigeria since 2022.Banking
He added that he remained committed to Nigeria’s development but had chosen to maintain a non-partisan position.Africans & Diaspora
The former CBN deputy governor currently serves as president of the Institute for Governance and Economic Transformation, IGET Africa, which he described as a non-partisan public policy think tank and executive education academy. He is also the Chief Executive Officer of Sogato Strategies, a geopolitical risk and regulatory strategy advisory firm.
Moghalu said his decision to stay outside partisan politics did not mean he was no longer involved in national affairs.
The development followed Atiku’s unveiling of his 2027 campaign structure, which named Kashim Ibrahim-Imam as chairman, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai as deputy chairman, and Senator Austin Akobundu as Director-General and Campaign Manager.Government
According to the campaign, the Policy Team will work on proposals addressing issues such as the cost of living, unemployment, insecurity and declining purchasing power.
