Seun Kuti kicks against bill to legalize firearms in Nigeria

Seun Kuti has revealed that Nigeria is not yet ripe for its citizens to be carrying guns and firearms about.

Nigerian Singer, Seun Kuti, has opposed the move for allowing firearms in the country, saying that Nigeria isn’t ready for civilians to possess guns.

The Afrobeat icon expressed concerns that such a law would enable the wealthy to harm the less privileged with ease.

Recall that lawmaker representing Delta North senatorial district, Ned Nwoko, called for the introduction of a bill that allows civilians to own and carry firearms.

“My bill on self-defense and firearms ownership regulation, currently listed in the Senate awaiting its first reading, deals with this pressing issue.

During an Instagram live session, Kuti said,

“I don’t think our society is ready to entrust anyone with firearms. It would simply mean the affluent would target the less fortunate, resulting in widespread violence. Politicians advocating for gun legalization are driven by profit rather than genuine concern for safety.

“Nigerians don’t require guns for protection; adequate security personnel should be employed to ensure the nation’s safety.”
