Tinubu orders probe of ‘fake’ agency PFIPC


President Bola Tinubu has directed the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to investigate the activities of the alleged Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), describing it as a fictitious body with no legal backing.

The directive was disclosed on Tuesday in a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga. Tinubu ordered the ICPC to complete the investigation and submit its report within 30 days.

According to the statement, the probe will cover forged appointment letters and other government documents. It will also investigate the alleged use of a false presidential appointment to obtain official recognition, diplomatic support, and visa facilitation.

The investigation will further examine the opening of bank accounts in the names of purported government agencies using allegedly forged documents.

The statement alleged that Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew falsely presented himself as the Director-General of the PFIPC and claimed to be a presidential appointee.

The ICPC will also investigate the movement of funds linked to the alleged scheme and the role of any public officials, private individuals, financial institutions, or other collaborators. Federal ministries, departments, and agencies have been directed to cooperate fully with the commission.

President Tinubu also ordered the ICPC to identify weaknesses in government procedures that may have enabled the alleged fraud and recommend measures to prevent a recurrence. He stressed that anyone found culpable should be dealt with in accordance with the law.
